Contemporary Cheongsam II , 2010s
Dress

This contemporary cheongsam with white florals, Chinese buttons, and shortened sleeves belongs to Tiffany Le, a Montreal-based artist who immigrated to Canada at five. Tiffany states that she bought several cheongsams in small Chinese boutiques on her travel to China. These cheongsams are different from the traditional ones she saw in Canada, worn by older Chinese Canadian women to express their cultural identity. Tiffany is interested in reconstructed cheongsams that experiment with the cut, length, and design. When these dresses break traditional forms, they offer the wearer more flexibility of movement and possibilities of self-expression.
