In the first painting, I depicted futuristic human habitats represented in four different seasons radiating from earth. I envisioned a sustainable living environment resembling natural designs from nature such as the Snowflakes, Weaver Birds’ Nests, Boabab Trees and Starfish as they harness the power from natural energy. As people encroach on animal natural habitats, it tips the balance of nature thus threatening and endangering their existence. With the rapid advancements in technology, engineering and increased environment preservation, humans can hope to save earth. I depicted several threatened and endangered California species within the human figures representing the cycle of life.
Marie Desma Wilcox (November 2,1933 - September 25, 2021), a Native American was featured in the lower part of the painting. She was the last fluent speaker of Wukchumni, a dialect of Tule-Kaweah, a Yokutsan Indigenous language, spoken by the Tule-Kaweah Yokuts of Central California. During the last years of her life, she compiled and recorded a dictionary, copyrighted in 2019 but remained unpublished. She exemplifies the title of the painting.
The sun is a fundamental source of energy that fuels and sustains humans, animals and plants; as depicted on the second painting which was woven with the first.
