The Pauperized Prince , 2020
96 x 96 in (h x w)
Paint

36" x 32"

A lot of research went into the development of “Pauperized Prince,” (Oil 32” x 26”). It was inspired by the human ego, animal commodity, and industrialization of the modern world. The prince and cows have chosen to be in a landscape filled with flora; a beauty that cannot coexist with constant overproduction. The prince’s neutral face reflects his qualm between the admiration of this environment and his royal burden of keeping his people satisfied. The crying cows humanize their experiences, wishing they can flourish in the fields, but must ultimately face the indisputable fate of being slaughtered prematurely for food. The muted color palette of the cityscape and sky reflects the immediate haze and smog associated with mass production. Placing the church far in the back reflects the little value we have on spirituality and further illustrates the present-day prominence of machinery. The title of the painting comes from the idea of showing impoverished realities besides a wealthy and influential individual.
