Radical Gardening: Seeds for Regenerative Futures , 2020

Radical Gardening was a guerilla community garden planted with houseless folks in Los Angeles to build community and coexistence in a time of local encampment sweeps, global uncertainty, and ecological crisis. This garden rose up from coming together and planting seeds with hopeful intentions, being present with the terra and with each other.
Against the colonization and exploitation of land and humans, gardening is where healing the body and healing the planet meet. The existence of this garden was an act of hope for a future where the regenerative abundance and ecological awareness provided by gardens can be accessed by all communities.
Since the time that this video was made about the project, the city tore it down. But it wasn’t about permanence, it was about cultivation. It lasted 8 months when we didn’t know if it would last one day, all because of the community support that sustained it. Not only had it lasted longer than expected, but this experiment of hope grew despite all the factors against it. As we continue experimenting with hope, we can stay grounded in practices of collectivity and care that can sustain us through these times.
