Roots of Black Women's Oppression, Article by Angela Y. Davis, Published in Vital Signs , 1987

Angela Y. Davis wrote in 1987: "Those of us plagued with feelings of inadequacy--and who among us are not?--should realize that the society in which we live is structured to place burdens on us that we cannot possibly bear alone...If we wish to ultimately purge ourselves of the internalized forms of oppression which prevent us from realizing our own individual aspirations, we also must join those who dream and work toward a society where Black women and all of our oppressed sisters and brothers can lead unrepressed creative lives."
