Bouquet of Eritrea , 2022
80 x 70 cm (h x w)
Watercolour on paper

Here the flag of Eritrea is broadly depicted using a bouquet of flowers, leaves, and berries. The Eritrean flag has three main colours, green, red, and blue, symbolising agriculture, the bloodshed to reach independence, and the Red Sea. The materials used further embody these meanings. The use of watercolours symbolises the Red Sea, the cotton paper represents the agricultural aspect, and the ink used to illustrate the hand represents the bloodshed. Visually the bouquet is being handed over to the viewer, inviting them to take in these colours and everything they stand for.
