These works represent my time on Pulau Ubin and my progress since the tutelage of yourself and the opportunities granted by My Art Space. Pulau Ubin is a special but unrequited space of Singapore which is most appreciated for its cycling treks and instagram opportunities at the former quarries. Having stayed on the island for a time however, I got to see the hidden gems of boatmen, villagers, and workers tending to the shops or servicing kampung homes and boats. For the many works painted about the island, I became known as "The Ubin Artist", but the villagers are more likely to remember me as "Beardy Artist". My goal as an artist and social activist is to remember our heritage and, more importantly, the people's souls, effort, and passions who kept that alive. They lean, for the moment, towards impressionism as I try to bring life to what has been shrouded by our city's financial pursuits, laying out the work on canvas with acrylic and charcoal then completing the work in oil.
