The Birangana and The Birth of Bangladesh , 2022
36 x 24 x 3 in (h x w x d)

This painting has been produced after studying the Daily Star’s Independence Day Special 2017, titled ‘The Birangana and The Birth of Bangladesh’ written by Laxmi Murthy. Inspired by Ferdousi Priyobhashini’s story of coming out as a survivor during 1971 after 28 years into Bangladesh’s liberation and years of following her artwork, I decided to honor and shed light on all the artists, photographers and most importantly, the vigilant and bias shattering Birangana women from the land of Bengal through this piece. From Potua Quamrul Hasan’s poster depicting female freedom fighter’s strength and their very existence, to Sayeeda Khanum’s groundbreaking photography of Nari Joddhas from 1971 and finally, Naib Uddin's gut wrenching and absolutely heartbreaking images of war rape victims.
