Headshot , 2021
230 x 150 cm (h x w)
Recycled materials (mdf board, newspaper, magazines, canvas scraps for pulling) and acrylic paint on board

Emily’s largest self portrait to date, “Headshot” is an exploration of material as well as an exploration of self. Inspired by the work of Mark Bradford, this work was made during the Contemporary Art Methods course, and involves seven layers of paper which have thenbeen ripped off to reveal what’s underneath. Primarily made of recycled materials, Emily enjoyed bringing the aspect of chance into her workflow: what materials would she find, how would they behave, how would the papers rip when she finally pulled out the canvas strips?
