Description:
This illustration is a play on The Birth of Man by Michelangelo. In this case, we are seeing the Birth of a Movement Disorder. This illustration accompanied a paper that described a patient who underwent immunotherapy on cells in their blood stream, and who later developed a movement disorder that originated in the deep structures of their brain. We see here the “spark” from the cells leaving the blood stream and causing damage to the brain.

Bio:
Jill received an MFA in Medical and Biological Illustration from The University of Michigan in 1998, and since that time has been a practicing illustrator and designer in New York City. In 2003, she achieved the status of Certified Medical Illustrator, a designation awarded by the Board of Certification of Medical Illustration. She was a member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Medical Illustrators from 2006-2011.

Jill’s client list includes: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The American Cancer Society, Springer-Verlag Publishers, Cambridge University Press, The Magazine Group, as well as numerous medical and research doctors.
