Astrocytic endfeet wrapped around blood vessels within the hippocampus

Bio:
Catarina Ferreira joined the Castellano lab as a postdoctoral fellow in March 2018 after a PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Minho in Portugal. Catarina studies how the youth-associated blood-born factor TIMP2 shapes brain circuits linked to learning and memory, and in understanding this action in the context of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Castellano lab is part of the Loeb Center for Alzheimer's disease and the Neuroscience Department at Mount Sinai. The aim of the lab is to understand pathways connecting the systemic environment to brain function in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.
