A Chamaeleon , 1612
206.8 x 262.5 x 9.9 cm (h x w x d)
19114

This piece is one of the most famous works of the artist, representing the animal in its natural surroundings, but in a highly stylized context. The hues of green in the animal's body and the foliage melt into each other, as these animals are known to do.
The artist intended to empress his employer, the Prince Salam (the future Jahangir), and until this day captivates a global audience with these brilliant colors and masterful depiction.
