STORY:
Ormiston Gorge is in the West MacDonnell Ranges, which is classic Australian outback country. People often think of the centre of Australia as arid, but in the desert there are some beautiful oases. This is one of those places; for where there is water, there is life, as evidenced by these graceful old river gums surrounding the waterhole. The creek is fed by spring water, and really only runs after heavy rain. The rich red walls rising up around the creek turn the gorge into a sanctuary – a beautiful place to go for a swim and find relief from the heat.
