Artist Statement

Whether in public places, workplaces or places of learning, people must always remain diligent and have a sense of self-awareness. Especially now when technology is on the rise and plays a very supportive role in our day-to-day existence, extra diligence is highly recommended. Scammers, frauds, and protecting yourself in the real world and online prevent many unfortunate accidents you can easily avoid. In addition, as a fellow African American every time I step foot outdoors, regardless of my attire I’m more of a target and suspicious of activity.

Artist Bio

My name is Jermaine Darby (preferred to be called Jay). My hometown is Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. My work is based on the idea of being in the moment, making images natural yet simple, while keeping that quality of a modern photograph. In addition to photography, I also make personal 2D illustrations of myself using past images of me as the base. I also have an interest in shooting products and will continue to explore various subjects through the lens.
