Artist Statement
The image is of a beautiful girl in her prom dress sitting under a tree and looking to the side. Unfortunately at the time because of Covid a lot of proms got canceled, mine included. I wanted to really show off the prom dress in a new light, breaking away from the regular kind of prom photos that were generic and simple.
I wanted to add a nice and airy look and to really use the surroundings to complement the model as well as the dress itself. Since she did have a corsage on I did not want to leave that out, I tried to incorporate it in a normal and comfortable position for the model.
There was not much post-production done to this photo, small adjustments to the nature behind her to bring her out more and keep her the main focus. I also wanted to have it be a bit more vibrant, it was summer and even around 4ish or 5 o’clock so the atmosphere was perfect. The lighting was not harsh. The small forest was fairly covered over top with leaves so there were minimal shadows to deal with, a reflector or an extra light also was not needed. This photo was done very naturally, I did not want to add on a pile of different things in photoshop and have it potentially ruin the photo or take away the aesthetic that was intended for the photo.
Overall I wanted to make sure that I could give the model her ‘prom experience’ even though she did not get to go.
