Me , 2022
Acrylic Styrofoam Board

This painting depicts me in two forms: the blue-me has her eyes wide open; the yellow-me with eyes closed is my dream-me. My dream-me is made of my night dreams, nightmares, and daydreams. I took inspiration from Surrealists who create images using an amalgamation of objects. I’ve had fantastic dreams about the sun crashing into the earth, a tentacle monster attacking, and me climbing up an endless staircase. I’ve also had daydreams about becoming a published author and being a lawyer. However, I feel like I am running out of time to achieve these dreams and that the train is going to move on without me. The two versions of me are facing each other, reaching out to touch one another’s faces. This demonstrates that, despite how troubling my dreams may be, I still long for them. I don’t exist without these dreams and they don’t exist without me. It also demonstrates the mundaneness of the real world versus the creative, dream world.
