The Apple of Eve — inspired by The Son of Man by René Magritte.
My work draws inspiration from the Son of Man by Rene Magritte who presented anonymity in a figure with a single apple that leave viewers with the curiosity of the man’s identity. Employing his technique, I wanted to spark the same curiosity and wonderment behind the face of science. Thus, my work presents an anonymous figure whose face is largely obscured by a hovering green flask of Corannulene, C₂₀H₁₀; whose neck is adorned with an atom necklace — a symbol of science. Accompanying her are lab apparels that aid her research, and each holds the molecule in their unique forms and colours. Beyond the low brick walls, lie vast seas and skies that point to an infinite journey of endless possibilities. Ultimately, her hidden face is a universal representation of all women of whom paved the way for science. After all, Eve was the bold and daring one who took the first bite of knowledge.
