Reasons to collect Akitu (Mesopotamian new year) paintings in 2020.
Akitu 2020 is not like every other year. Normally this is a time when Assyrians pray and celebrate the renewal of nature with the world. However, this year humanity faces a crisis of illness, death, fear and isolation. This Akitu should be a time of hope and an invitation to love, sing, help each and most importantly experience nature and all her creatures. Feel the warm sun when Shamash (God of the Sun) visits in the early morning. Feel all around you, the plants, trees, ground, animals, people and say loudly “I love you all!”
This collection was based on my pleas and prayers written in November 2019 and painted over the past several months as the world faces the coronavirus pandemic.
