"“Morphic Resonance” was painted in oils, using a variation of the mischtechnik and careful observation of a beautiful reference skull that I have. Oil painting has always seemed like such a daunting medium to approach. There is an alchemy to oil painting that has mystified me and the fear of toxicity of some of the pigments and solvents has kept me hesitant from exploring. I am proud to say that Vitra Academy’s Regeneration Seminar with Amanda Sage and Alecia Sacred Heart, allowed me feel safe to explore the unknown and dive into a medium that had always seemed unapproachable. This painting felt like a major breakthrough in my body of work. The ability to push and pull, working back into the slow drying oil was magical. People had told me for many years how much I would love oils. I’m glad to have finally made the leap (and can’t believe it took me this long to listen). I am so incredibly grateful for all the support I was shown along the way from our teachers and fellow students. After painting for so many years it’s incredible to feel like this journey is still only just beginning.
