Comfortability Underwater , 2022
Acrylic paint and Graphite pencil + 16x20 canvas

My thought process was quite simple. I wanted to paint a semi-reality, and that's what I did. This is a painting depicting an individual who's nearly immersed in a pond as they lift a hand to the sky. On the surface, it appears to be a rather tranquil and straightforward piece. Diving deeper, it’s a visual representation of how emotions can engulf you and consume you. Swimming is an activity that provides a sense of relaxation, but also a sense of suffocation. Exerting force and struggling would only create difficulty to give up. Despite that, the sense of relief as water lifts your weight will be infinitesimally greater. The person who laid down snuggly in place is almost at ease- as if they had come to accept everything. Completely unbothered, yet also regretful and…resentful? Similarly to how you let your emotions take over. Empty, but strangely full and plenty busy.
