Peintre et lithographe, Monet le considérait comme son maître. Son ami Courbet réalisa son portrait. Il vécut à Ecouen entre 1879 et 1880 où il y peignit deux toiles: “Intérieur de ferme à Ecouen” et “Une maison à Ecouen”. Il écrivit à un ami “je vis un peu en loup à Ecouen depuis un an”. Le tableau exposé ici est le travail préparatoire à “La raie” exposé au musée d’Orsay de Paris.

Painter and lithographer, Monet considered him as his master. His friend Courbet painted his portrait. He lived in Ecouen between 1879 and 1880 where he painted two canvases: "Interior of a farm in Ecouen" and "A house in Ecouen". He wrote to a friend "I have been living a bit like a wolf in Ecouen for a year". The painting exhibited here is the preparatory work for "The Stingray" exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
