President Kennedy’s Presidency was noted for several key events in our history. He led us through the Cuban Missile Crisis. He authorized attempts to overthrow the Castro government. JFK implemented a strategic hamlet program in Vietnam that strived to protect peasant communities while providing them with economic support and increase their support for South Vietnam. Kennedy also established the Peace Corps. Closer to home, Kennedy demonstrated enormous confidence and support to our Army Special Forces. He authorized them to adopt the Green Beret as the official headgear. He also supported the establishment of the Navy SEALs. His support to the special operations community has been an enduring legacy.
