A senior Congressman that I worked for as a Defense Fellow first met the President as a freshman Member. He shared this story with me. Reagan brought all of the new Members of Congress into his office and asked each one to tell him about their main policy concern. The group went around the room citing issues such as economy, healthcare, conservation, etc. After the last person spoke, the President stated, “All of those issues are important but none of them mean much without strong national security.” As I thought about famous leaders I wanted to do in scratchboard, I remembered this quote and found my inspiration.
