11.5" x 7.75" cut and polished shell with eyeholes, nostril holes, open mouth and affixed human ancestral hair top and bottom. Rawhide thongs are used as back-ties for this very unusual Ibo dance mask. Masks like this one have rarely been viewed by outsiders, and as in all such masks, the mask must be "fed" with the proper rituals, which are performed in accordance with ancient tradition.
