ON THE WAY TO THE CASTLE , 2022

OIL ON CANVAS

"Special mention goes to Dominic Mc Namara's oil painting "On the way to the Castle," which successfully balances the geographical reality of memory with the symbolic value of elements and demonstrates a commendable skill in artistic representation. We find ourselves in the land of Ireland, along the main river of the island: the River Shannon. In the landscape, the medieval King John's Castle appears in the distance, almost on the horizon, not far from the city of Limerick. The castle serves as a sentinel, and the bridge, in its most sacred sense as a deliberate structure that, by cutting through nature, connects fragments of humanity, is both real and deeply cultural. The brushstroke, gentle and fluid, juxtaposes the lightness of water and sky with the stark physical presence of architecture and artificial lights that define the depth of the painting.
