Pat Lasch (b. 1944) is an originator of the Feminist Art Movement and early member of A.I.R. Gallery, the first all-women’s gallery in the US. The daughter of a German pastry chef and a seamstress, Lasch has been known since the 1970’s for her detailed works on paper and her sculptures which often resemble confections and are constructed largely from acrylic paint. These emotive works employ various decorative forms that evoke beauty, indulgence, fantasy, desire, and sometimes loss. In 1979 she received a sculpture commission from the Museum of Modern Art NY to create one of her by then iconic tower cakes for the occasion of the Museum’s 50th anniversary.

This work is from a small, never before shown 1970’s series of works on paper wherein the artist works the paint three dimensionally and utilizes her signature embellishments.

Lasch’s work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Academy Museum, New York; the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; the Palm Springs Art Museum, California; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Lasch was given a major retrospective exhibition at The Palm Springs Art Museum, California in 2017, her second solo exhibition at the museum. Most recently, she was included in “With Pleasure: Pattern and Decoration in American Art 1972–1985” at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, which traveled to the Hessel Museum of Art, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in Spring 2021.
