War Splits Families , 2022
100 x 100 x 0.1 cm (h x w x d)

This digital drawing was inspired by the situation at the first beginning of the Ukrainian-Russian war. Bringing belongings and family members, people are fleeing Ukraine to escape further Russian attacks. However, men ages 18 to 60 were prohibited from leaving the country and urged to join the army, according to the martial law. No exercise in empathy can make us feel what these people felt when men had to stay in their country and fight and the rest of the family had to leave them behind in order to save their own lives. I wanted to show the physical and mental void that war created in the lives of families and the sudden separation they went through. The style is minimalist, almost sketchy, as I was interested in conveying in the simplest way the emotions given by the breakup.
