ARTIST BIO

Sharmeen Feerasta uses fluid art to find beauty in chaos. With acrylic paints and canvas, she finds joy and serenity in watching art unfold, as the paint flows to create beauty and tranquility in unexpected ways. Much like life, Sharmeen finds there is only so much you can do to plan and prepare but ultimately, you have to let go and lose yourself in the journey, and allow the art to take its own direction. Drawing inspiration from the grandeur in nature - from waterfalls to volcanoes to dark stormy nights - her art reflects the mood within, and the struggle of the soul to find light and peace. As a physician, Sharmeen learned that practicing medicine is an art itself but by allowing herself to get lost in colours and movement, she finds art is the real medicine.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Acrylic on canvas; 12” x 24”

Connected to the prompt “faith and spirituality” and inspired by the intricate poetry of Rumi, The Light Within reflects the artist's search for Divine Light. Using fluid art painting technique combined with the choice of deep, rich colours and a powerful focal point, Sharmeen's piece aims to embody the quote by Rumi:

“I’ve been looking for a long, long time, for this thing called love, I’ve ridden comets across the sky, and I’ve looked below and above. Then one day I looked inside myself, and this is what I found, A golden sun residing there, beaming forth God’s light and sound.”

Paying homage to her medical background, the light is anchored in the heart, spreading its reach to chase away the darkness. Using light, the artist invites each person to look deep within to find the meaning and purpose in their lives.
