STORY:
At the southern end of Jones Beach in Kiama you will find the towering basalt formations known as Cathedral Rocks. The name “Kiama” is derived from the Aboriginal word kiarama, which means “place where the sea makes a noise”. The relentless ocean has created an amazing photographic location here, with many angles to choose from. Photography is all about where you position yourself to take the photo. Here, I have used the sides of a small cave to frame Cathedral Rocks in the glowing light of sunset. I had to enter the cave at mid-tide, because I wanted water coming into the foreground, but not so much that I would get swamped. The golden colours illuminating the scene outside create a lovely contract with the beautiful turquoise colours in the water as waves rush into the cave.
