Quilt

Artist Statement: I have been quilting for over 30 years and have worked mostly with traditional quilt blocks and patterns. Quilting has always been a means of creative expression for me. It has only been in recent years that I have been drawn to landscape quilts. I love the fact that you can depict a scene, with fabric and thread. Fabric is cut and fit into the proper size and shape in a way that mimics the shapes in an original scene. However, the fabric color and visual texture must also work to give the impression of the shades, hues, and dimensions that are found in the original setting. This play or auditioning of fabrics as they are chosen and layered in a collage format can then be given detail with inks. Design elements can be further enhanced with thread colors and the designs of the actual quilting.

Artist description: Wild cherry blossoms just starting to open on a cool, damp, misty day. The swirling fog seems to make the pink blossoms even more striking.
