Healing

I bought a small vintage parish register in a Paris flea market, recording donations made to pay for masses for souls in purgatory, dated 1928-1944. In early 2020 I decided to pay homage to all the lives lost in this pandemic by painting a butterfly on those pages every day for 100 days. It became a a lovely and meditative process that I looked forward to each day. They were printed on silk with additional organza butterflies layered over them. The finished quilt did not represent grief for me but a joyful release of so many souls.
