Remains of the Norholmen, Hoy Sound, Orkney , 2022
68.2 x 100 x 0.3 cm (h x w x d)

Orkney has been both a haven and graveyard for ships since the time of the Vikings. Hoy Sound is the western entrance to Scapa Flow, the UK’s main naval base in both World Wars. The Norwegian fishing vessel, the Norholmen, grounded in high winds and heavy seas on these rocks below Warbeth graveyard, Stromness, in 1966. All nine crew survived and little now remains of the vessel.
