Our Threaded Future , 2022

Fast Fashion has enabled us to consume clothing beyond what is needed. We now have 5 times the amount of clothing our grandparents had, and an average consumer will leave 32kg of clothing to landfill annually, each and every year. My work ‘Our Threaded Future’, examines the environmental damage this has caused and the implications this will have on future generations. By combining discarded clothing and placing it into areas of my contemporary environment, I intend to leave both a physical and metaphorical residue, to replicate the future of textile wastage. The “blanket” absorbing the natural landscape, symbolises human mass consumption as the new environment. Human civilisations to come will only be left with off-cuts of our destruction.
