What defines home for each of us? The artist has always enjoyed walking on streets and small alleys to see how people live, work and play.
Most Singaporeans live in government-subsidised housing and they are most enjoyable to look at. Not fancily built, what makes them interesting are the community that dwell within - they add colour to these homes.
As the artist was walking along the neighbourhood, she was attracted by the varied sights and sounds of the area. What she saw was beautiful: The clothes hung outside almost every housing unit, flapping in the wind; the fruits and vegetables sold at makeshift markets occupying the unofficial 'courtyard'; the sounds of people at the ground floor selling, buying, bargaining, running and laughing, and finally, the activities of the cats and birds of the community. This scene stirred her emotions. Home is not merely a functional dwelling, but also an amalgamation of all these 'colours' that make up a colourful neighbourhood.
