Oedipus Rex (diptych) , 2022
100 x 160 x 1 cm (h x w x d)
acrylic paint on canvas

The inspiration of this project was from Oedipus Rex from Sophocles. From this Greek tragedy, the concept “discovery of truth” is employed. The visuals are uncomfortable and very intense. The emotions are exaggerated by the use of irregular brushstroke. The dark colour tone fades any hopeful moods and only leaves a desolate atmosphere. It was done to employ a motif of unbearable torment, followed by the strong juxtaposition of the backgrounds and figure in addition to distorted proportions.
