“This collection of choreopoems, created through community collaboration, moves experiences from survivors of human trafficking into an artistic expression, transitioning darkness into beauty and power. After choosing a story to spotlight, I establish a framework for movement based on the message. Then all of the people in the room work together to create the piece. They contribute input and collaborate based on the message, framework, talent, and intent. This process creates further community and empowerment, giving everyone a rich investment in the process of using art to spread awareness about human trafficking. I use this process in my education and community work as well, with professional dancers and poets who are looking to make a difference.”
