Department of Pathology (Division of Neuropathology)

This painting is inspired by aspects of outer space as well as elements found in nature on earth. Since the brain has an amazing capacity to filter information which influences perception, the meaning of this painting is left to the interpretation of the viewer.

Melissa Umphlett, MD is an assistant professor of pathology, molecular, and cell based medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and an attending physician specializing in general surgical pathology and neuropathology. She is board-certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and neuropathology.

Regarding research, she is engaged in robust ongoing collaborations, both within the Mount Sinai Health System and beyond, which will hopefully bring transformative knowledge in the field of neuropathology.
