No More , 2023
Video (1 minute 35 seconds)

“‘No More’ combines extant art in two forms: photography and song. The image is of Peter, who escaped from Louisiana slavery in 1863 to join the Union Army and was photographed during his medical examination for enlistment. It is purportedly the single photograph most widely circulated by the abolitionists. The song, from the same era, is sung here by Paul Robeson.”
