“Excerpted from my body of work ‘The Migrant Project: Contemporary California Farm Workers,’ these images hint at the larger story of the human cost of feeding America through the eyes and words of the people who have done their work dutifully, yet remain unrecognized and exploited by a system that has seen little change in the decades since its harsh and often inhumane conditions were first brought into the public awareness by Ed Murrow’s ‘Harvest of Shame,’ and by the photographers of the WPA in the 1940s — both direct inspirations of my work. The subjects’ faces speak volumes and invite us to ask ourselves what our produce is truly worth.”
