The subject matter of my paintings reflect my maturity and journey as an artist. When I announced that I wanted to get an art degree in college, my parents encouraged me to select a topic of study that I could use to support myself. After completing my master’s degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology and working city planning and raising a family, I came full circle and return to my earlier passion of painting. My art contributes to my wholeness and how I view myself. I just turned fifty and I find I have a different perspective that comes with age. I am drawn to the contrast between resilience and decay found in the urban and natural landscape. The angles and planes captured in my paintings are a reflection of my background in architecture. Objects and tools that are rusting and far from new still have function and usefulness, and my paintings show the beauty in that resilience. Those overlooked corners that many pass by are often rich with hidden gems.
