In Liedern wird der Prater zum Ort der ewigen Sehnsucht und der Verklärung der Kindheit. Es geht um Liebe und Lust, um Heimweh und große Gefühle.
Der Prater ist ein Kontrapunkt zur Stadt, er ist der älteste Vergnügungspark Europas, in dem man die Routine des Alltags in der Stadt hinter sich lässt. Die Definition des Wieners kommt ohne Prater nicht aus, der Prater ist ein Teil seiner selbst. Der Prater war und ist ein Ort der Begegnung – von Alt und Jung, von Arm und Reich, von Jüdisch, Katholisch und Orthodox, von Böhmisch, Tschechisch, Ungarisch, von Walzer, Foxtrott, Jazz, Operette und Pop. Es ballt sich dort alles, auch alle innovativen und experimentellen Formen der Musik. Viele Praterlieder stammen überraschenderweise aus Operetten oder Revuen. Es geht in den Liedern zum Beispiel um Adel und Großbürgertum, die auf der Hauptallee flanieren und repräsentieren – und sich zugleich nahtlos einfügen. Das ist auch eine Qualität des Praters: die sozialen Schichten begegnen einander, man geht wieder auseinander und es entsteht kein nachhaltiger sozialer Konflikt daraus.

The Prater is a counterpoint to the city, it is the oldest amusement park in Europe where one leaves the routine of everyday life in the city behind. The definition of the Viennese cannot do without the Prater, the Prater is a part of itself. The Prater was and is a place of encounter - of old and young, rich and poor, Jewish, Catholic and Orthodox, Bohemian, Czech, Hungarian, waltz, foxtrot, jazz, operetta and pop. Everything is concentrated there, including all innovative and experimental forms of music. Surprisingly, many Prater songs come from operettas or revues. For example, the songs are about the aristocracy and the upper middle classes, who stroll and represent on the Hauptallee - and at the same time blend in seamlessly. That is also a quality of the Prater: the social classes meet each other, they part again and no lasting social conflict arises from it.
