North Queensland
The monsoon season generally lasts from December to March. It is associated with the inflow of moist west to north westerly winds into the monsoon trough, producing convective cloud and heavy rainfall over northern Australia.
Northern tropical ‘mango madness’ season is also a time for fresh lychees, sapote, abiu, soursop, carambola, longan, coconut, passionfruit, pineapple, star fruit, durian, bananas, breadfruit, mangosteen, rollinia, miracle fruit, ice cream bean, dragon fruit, limes and idiot fruit, a species endemic to the top of Australia. Found only in the Daintree Rainforest it is believed by many to be the eldest living flowering tree.
On the coasts it's a time of lethal hazard for swimming: ‘marine stinger season’ (November to May) the box jellyfish or Chironex fleckeri is one of the world’s most poisonous animals.
The cattle know it is about higher ground.
