Artist Biography
Ana Sofia Mariz is a Russian-Brazilian independent typographer, type designer, letterpress printer, and consultant based in Seattle, WA. She started her career in the commercial book publishing industry in Brazil, working as an in-house designer and later as a founding partner and book designer at Versalete Studio in Rio de Janeiro. Since relocating to Seattle in 2012, she got involved with letterpress printing becoming an active member of the local community. In recent years, she has been specializing in designing typefaces while continuing to work on various typographic projects. She just released her first font, Vine Craft, designed to shine in contemporary letterpress applications.

Description of Process
This poster is part of the 2021 Partners in Print and Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum international letterpress print exchange, “Celebrating All Types”. The bottom part was created in Indesign using the digital font Vine, designed by the artist. Photopolymer plates were ordered from Boxcar press. The top part was set in wood and metal type. It is a two-pass print: top with split fountain (red, white, and blue), and bottom in black. It was printed on a Vandercook 219, at Studio Saudade letterpress shop in La Conner, WA, September 2021.
