Description of Process
“Vision” is a typeface I designed based on hand-lettering on the cover of Lavender Vision, a lesbian newspaper from 1970. I initially designed the font for digital use, and then developed it into a 3A scheme of 12-line moveable type (including two sets of punctuation). I created them by laser-cutting the typeface out of plexiglass with a duo-tack backing. Then, I mounted each of the characters onto plywood blocks, which were laser-etched with guidelines to help with placement. This type serves as an interactive archive, allowing both printmakers and the wider community to engage with queer publication history.
