Poem

The people we know build our world and shape us. But what happens when we abandon our identity and act only in accordance with others’ expectations? If we only base our identity on a “B story”? In this poem, two types of reflective surfaces--a pool and a mirror--serve as portals of identity. While the pool offers more freedom, the mirror becomes a trap that we create for ourselves. The poem illustrates the freedom we have when we don’t only define ourselves by our B story (pool) as well as the constraint of suppressing everything but our B story (mirror). As we see here, sometimes the pool freezes over to create the mirror.
