Hair No Evil I , 2023

The Hair No Evil series takes a look at the narratives attached to Black hair texture and styling. There is often discussion about hair in relation to the Black woman, however, the Black male encounters shifts in perception based on their hair as well.

In Hair No Evil I we see the profile of two Black men with what was once called the high top fade. This haircut showcases the archatecual shape the naturally coily hair texture can create. One of the subjects hair is picked out in order to showcase the hight of the hair. While the others hair is palm rolled so that they make several peaks. There is a layering of the cowerie shell which is used as a tool of divination in African derived religions.
