Untitled 2
84 x 96 cm (h x w)
Acrylic on canvas

This landscape painting depicts a view of London’s primary financial district including some of the city’s landmark sites. The iconic Gherkin building appears in striking contrast to the more typical rectangular towers surrounding it.
The artist painted this scene using thick, lively brush strokes, and a limited range of white, red, and blue hues, both of which express the coarse yet vibrant atmosphere of the city.
I chose this piece because I was interested in how the work could be contextualised within the wider exhibition. The masculine, vertical structures of public space provided a thought-provoking comparison with work made by women exploring emotions within the private sphere.
