Untitled 2
15 x 10 cm (h x w)
Watercolour on card

Valerie Potters fantastical landscapes and microscopic worlds are fuelled by the artist’s love of botany. They tie together symbols of birth, death, and love with non-religious iconography.
She explains her drawings are ‘like technical drawings of ideas and scientifically precise diagrams which represent the events of another world.’
Her drawings are imaginative and intuitive rather than planned, and are a vehicle for expressing her thoughts and emotions as well as being instrumental in her psychological recovery from a mental breakdown.
I selected these two drawings as the artist’s work is attractive and engaging to look at, fit within the theme of the exhibition, and were very popular with the group of curators.
