The Return of Nep Fontanus with Spear of Matchien
80 x 150 cm (h x w)
Mixed Media on Canvas

This multi-media work depicts a large, reddish-coloured, double-headed creature with multiple limbs and eyes. The blue background is embellished with radiating circles. A human-like figure, ‘Nep Fontanus’, rides triumphant on the creature’s back, his body tattooed in intricate black and white patterns, holding the ‘Spear of Matachien’.

In his own words Greg Bromley is a “social worker by day, Cosmic Wormhole and multiverse fantasist by night.” He is a self-taught artist, and his work is infused with mythical creatures, surrealist subject matter, and a sense of wonder at the universe.

I was drawn to this piece because of its’ richly described details, the monsters and wonders beyond our everyday understanding, and the triumphant hero’s homecoming.
