Θαλασσόξυλο στις εκβολές του ποταμού Πάμισου στη Μεσσηνία.
Γύρω από τον μεγαλύτερο ποταμό του νομού συναντάμε αρκετά είδη ερωδιών όπως σταχτοτσικνιάδες, νυχτοκόρακες και μικροτσικνιάδες, αλλά και πολλά παρυδάτια όπως φαλαρίδες, νερόκοτες, ποταμοσφυριχτές και μπεκατσίνια.
Η περιοχή ξεχωρίζει για τη συχνή παρουσία της βίδρας, ενώ στα κοντινά βουνά έχουν επιστρέψει τα σπάνια τσακάλια. Σημαντική είναι και η ιχθυοπανίδα του ποταμού που περιλαμβάνει 11 είδη ψαριών, από τα οποία ξεχωρίζουν ο λακωνικός πελασγός, η ποταμοσαλιάρα, το χέλι και η πελοποννησιακή μπριάνα.

Sea wood at the estuary of Pamisos river. The historic Pamisos is the largest river in Messinia, constitutes a source of life for the greater area and provides refuge for many species of birds.
Near and around the river we can spot several species of herons such as the grey heron, the black-crowned night heron and the little bittern, but also many waders like the Eurasian coot, the common moorhen, the Little ringed plover and the common snipe.
The area is notable for the frequent presence of Eurasian otters, while the rare golden jackals have returned to the nearby mountains. The fish fauna of the river is also important, with 11 species of fish, among which the Evrotas minnow, the freshwater blenny, the common eel, and the Peloponnese barbel.
